South Carolina VA Disability Attorneys

South Carolina has a long history of military service and is home to more than 400,000 U.S. Military veterans. The recent end to the War in Afghanistan and the conflicts prior – World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, the Gulf War, Bosnia, the Iraq War and countless more conflicts – have left hundreds of thousands of veterans with injury, illness or debilitating medical conditions.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides support for those disabled veterans with monthly compensation – but it is far from a flawless system and many veterans need help to receive the benefits they have earned with their selfless service. Many veterans need the help of a veterans disability attorney to file a claim or appeal a denied disability claim and we can help at VABenefits Attorneys.

Who Is Eligible for VA Disability Benefits in South Carolina?

Am I eligible to receive disability benefits? This is the first question we are asked in most cases and we can help. Veterans who are eligible for disability benefits must meet a series of criteria put forward by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

For a veteran to be eligible for disability, they must meet two basic requirements – the veteran must have an injury, illness or medical condition that impacts the mind or body AND the veteran must have served on active duty, active duty for training or inactive duty for training. The veteran’s injury, illness or medical condition must fit ONE of the additional criteria from the list of disability claims below:

  • The veteran sustained a service-related injury, illness or medical condition that was discovered while in active service – which is defined as an in-service disability claim.
  • The veteran possessed an injury, illness or medical condition prior to their military service that was exacerbated by their time in service – which is defined as a pre-service disability claim.
  • The veteran discovered a service-related injury, illness or medical condition after completion of their military service – which is defined as a post-service disability claim.

Are There Additional VA Benefits for South Carolina Veterans?

A disability claim can do a lot to help a veteran and his family – but disability benefits are not the only benefits available via the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans who seek to further their education can use the Montgomery G.I. Bill to help pay for school. Veterans who wish to purchase a home may be eligible to receive a VA Home Loan with affordable finance rates. Veterans in need of medical care have access to Department of Veterans Affairs facilities across the country.
