Who Is Eligible for VA Disability Benefits in Iowa?

Are you unsure if you qualify for VA disability benefits? We can help answer that question right here at VA Benefits Attorneys. Here is a basic breakdown of the criteria that veterans must meet to receive disability compensation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Disabled veterans must meet TWO baseline criteria. The veteran must have a service-connected injury, illness or medical condition that impairs the mind or body AND the veteran must have served on active duty, active duty for training or inactive duty for training.

Veterans who qualify for disability must also meet the criteria of ONE of the claim classifications listed below:

  • In-Service Disability Claim – The veteran has a service-connected injury, illness or medical condition that was sustained and diagnosed while a member of the military.
  • Pre-Service Disability Claim – The veteran entered into military service with a diagnosed injury, illness or medical condition that was made worse by military duty.
  • Post-Service Disability Claim – The veteran suffers from a service-connected injury, illness or medical condition that was found and diagnosed after their military service.

Are There Additional VA Benefits for Iowa Veterans?

Are you a veteran who lives in Iowa? Do you have additional questions about the veterans benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs? Veterans who hope to purchase their dream home in the Hawkeye State can apply for a VA Home Loan – a benefit used by just 6% of veterans. Veterans who hope to further their education can apply for tuition assistance with the G.I. Bill – a benefit used by only 40% of veterans. Those benefits are just a few provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs that will support veterans when their service is complete.
